EGYPTIAN CARNELIAN AMULET OF HARE.
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC
A carnelian figure of a hare carved in the round, shown crouching with the forelegs tucked beneath the chest and the rounded hindquarters set low. The head is slightly raised with a short muzzle and circular recessed eyes, the long ears laid back along the top of the body, with two vertical perforations drilled through the back.
Size: 30mm x 16mm; Weight: 9g.
Provenance: Private London collection of an Ancient Art dealer; Formerly in a central London family collections 1990s; Suggested to be examined by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology, in the late 1980s and early 1990s.; ex. 1970s/early80s UK art market.
