EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BES AMULET. Third Intermediate Period, Ca. 1069 - 664 BC. A bright blue-green faience amulet of Bes shown squatting frontally on a small rectangular base. The dwarf god has a broad leonine face with bulging eyes and a short nose, and wears a flat-topped cap above a ruffled mane that spreads over the shoulders. The torso shows a prominent belly and small rounded breasts. The arms are set to the sides with the hands resting on the thighs. A transverse suspension element is present at the back.
