EGYPTIAN FAIENCE HEDGEHOG.
Middle Kingdom, Ca. 2055 - 1790 BC
A faience figure of a hedgehog modelled in the round with an elongated body tapering to a short snout. The domed back is moulded with transverse ridges and studded with closely set bosses suggesting spines, the turquoise glaze contrasted by darker spots.
Size: 50mm x 35mm; Weight: 33g.
Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with Kurt Deppert collection, Munich, 1970s.
