EGYPTIAN MOSAIC GLASS PRAYING LAPWING INLAY. Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 2nd - 1st century BC. A rectangular mosaic glass inlay depicting lapwings facing left against a cobalt blue matrix. Each bird is rendered in white, yellow, and red with a robust body, a large head with a sharp beak, and a rounded eye outlined in red. The wings combine multicoloured sections bordered in yellow, while the legs are extended downward in red. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
