EGYPTIAN WOODEN BABOON FIGURINE. Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A wooden figurine of a seated baboon resting on a rectangular base. The body is compact, with a slightly hunched posture and arms resting on the knees. The head is rounded, with a prominent muzzle and incised details marking the nostrils and mouth. The eyes are recessed, and positioned beneath a slightly protruding brow ridge. The limbs are proportionally thick, with carved fingers and toes extending forward. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
