EGYPTIAN WOODEN MODEL OF A FUNERARY BOAT. Middle Kingdom, Ca. 1900 - 1700 BC. A wooden model of a funerary boat with a long, narrow hull featuring a slightly curved base and pointed bow. The boat is equipped with a central mast supporting a rectangular sail. On the deck, six small, human-shaped figures are present, with four seated and two standing, all carved and painted with reddish-brown pigment. Two pairs of seated rowers are positioned in the centre: one pair in front and the other behind the mast. At the bow stands another figure, with his right hand outstretched in front of him. A sixth figure is placed at the stern. The boat’s bow is equipped with a small rectangular structure, representing a canopied bier, painted with a darker tone. The surface of the boat is decorated with painted red and white patterns along the hull. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement from Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
