EGYPTIAN WOODEN UPPER PORTION OF A COFFIN LID. Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A painted wooden upper portion of a sarcophagus lid depicting the bust of the deceased. The face is rounded, with full cheeks, a slightly pointed chin, and a smooth forehead. The eyes are outlined with applied bronze frames extending to the outer corners, with bronze eyebrows positioned above. The nose is broad, and the small mouth has full lips gently curved upwards. The ears are carved in low relief, set slightly back from the face. The head is framed by a tripartite wig with alternating bands of black and yellow extending over the shoulders. A broad collar covers the upper chest, consisting of multiple concentric rows of painted geometric patterns in red, blue, yellow, and black. The underside is hollow.
