[ELECTRICITY]. Wimshurst Voltana electrostatic machine. Metal, glass and Plexiglas instrument on wooden base, H: 37 cm. Electrostatic machine developed between 1880 and 1883 by the British inventor James Wimshurst (1832-1903). It is an electric generator consisting of two large counter-rotating discs mounted in a vertical plane, two crossed bars and a spark gap formed by two metal spheres.
