ELEGANT GNATHIAN WARE EPICHYSIS WITH POLYCHROME DECORATION.
Ca. 325 - 275 BC
A terracotta epichysis with a pear-shaped body on a stepped ring foot and a tall, cylindrical neck ending in a projecting lip, with a high strap handle springing from the shoulder and joining the rim. The vessel is decorated in added colour with a frieze of suspended grape clusters amid curling tendrils and leaves, framed by dotted bands and a tongue border, with further linear ornament encircling the shoulder, body and neck.
