Elegant mahogany and mahogany veneer chest with rounded fluted uprights resting on a plinth base. It opens with a drawer and a flap revealing six drawers and large compartments. An ingenious mechanical system frees the chest behind the two false doors in the lower section. Gilded bronze lock escutcheons, handles and finials. Veined white marble top.
Louis XVI period. Stamped by Philippe Pasquier, master on 23 July 1760, died in 1783.
Height 141.5 cm - Width: 90 cm - Depth: 44 cm This secretary with its very pure lines shows the great mastery of Pasquier who used the finest blond mahogany for his delicate secretaire. Cabinetmaker to the Prince de Condé, he is also said to have received commissions from the Countess du Barry (an incredible secretaire with trompe l'oeil decoration, kept in the collections of the Dukes of Hamilton). As a supplier to the inner circle of the court, he distinguished himself by his eclectic production of highly refined furniture.
