Born in 1775 into an old Parisian dress family, Henriette
Lorimier grew up in a privileged environment, familiar with the world of
artistic world. She exhibited at the Salon from 1802 onwards, where she achieved her first
her first successes. La chèvre nourrice, a smaller version of which appears
in her self-portrait, was acquired by Princess Caroline Murat in
1804.
Born in Paris on 23 September 1800, Emile-Alexandre-César Lefébure de
Sancy (1800-1863) came from a long line of military men. Rendered
to civil status, he married Adélaïde-Julie-Amélie de Baudéan, granddaughter of the Countess de Parabère, the Regent's famous mistress. From
only one child, the model in our painting, who was orphaned when he was
orphaned at the age of one.
