An important and rare first edition, printed in an author's edition of 103 copies, decorated with 2 woodcuts by Henry van de Velde on the cover. One of 3 copies announced on Japon (n°III), actually 4 after Sadeleer, the only large paper. It contains a note on mauve paper with an autograph letter from the author "to Charles Dumercy, 19th April 1892". A lifelong friend and accomplice, Dumercy founded the journal Le Spectateur catholique with Elskamp. A very fine copy. Spine slightly darkened.
