Émile GALLÉ (1846-1904) Large symbolist speaking vase "Nous monterons vers la lumière" circa 1897-1898 Acid-etched and ground multi-layered crystal with iris decoration and fire-polished finish Quote incised around the rim of the dish: "Nous ascons vers la lumière" ("We will climb towards the light") Signed in intaglio in the decoration "Gallé". H. 36 cm History : This work is one of a series of glassworks created in 1898, the year of J'accuse, in support of Captain Alfred Dreyfus. One copy is part of the Hentrich collection at the Kuntsmuseum in Düsseldorf (inventory no. 257) and was published in the museum's catalogue. One copy is in the collections of the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg under inventory number ZF 24912.
