Emile Georges (Géo) Weiss (1861 Strasbourg - 1929 Barbizon) "Couturières" (dressmakers). Original title View of a bright, light-flooded dressmaker's studio, with a young dressmaker sewing at the window and the other cutting a piece of fabric. This major work by the painter, exhibited at the first Salon d'Automne in Paris in 1903, combines realistic and impressionistic stylistic devices, with light becoming the main expressive element of the overall mood. Géo Weiss, who was inspired by Ernest Meissonier, mainly painted genre scenes, but also portraits, landscapes and still lifes. He was a pupil of Léon Bonnat and Antoine Grison, made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1880 and then exhibited frequently at the Salon des artistes français. In 1903 he co-founded the progressive Salon d'Automne in Paris, exhibited there regularly until 1929, was its treasurer for many years and was a jury member for the painting section on several occasions.
