Émile Regnault de Maulmain (1836 Lons-le-Saunier - 1897 Nevy-sur-Seille) Market in front of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in Istanbul Atmospheric scene and veduta by the famous French Oriental painter, who was a pupil of Louis Lamothe and Alberto Pasini and exhibited at the Salon in Paris from 1863 to 1882. In 1878 he officially added the name "de Maulmain" to his surname. Oil on canvas; signed lower right; inscribed "Émile Regnault Paris" and titled "Marché devant la Mosque de Sultan Achmet à Constantinople" verso, probably by the artist himself. 26.5 cm x 40 cm. Probably original frame. Provenance: from the Michahelles Collection, Hamburg, which has grown over generations. Oil on canvas. Signed. Inscribed and titled probably by the artist on the reverse. Probably original frame.
