Notes Emily Kam Kngwarray holds several art market records: - In 2017, her major work Earth's Creation I (1994) sold for AUD 2.1 million, setting a record for an Australian artist. - Her works from the 1994-1996 period, considered her most accomplished, regularly fetch six-figure sums at international auctions. A major retrospective of her work is scheduled to open at London's Tate Modern in July 2025, which is expected to generate significant renewed interest in her work. These two paintings are major and highly sought-after pieces from Emily Kam Kngwarray's late period. They combine spiritual resonance with gestural mastery, and reflect her deep attachment to her land and to Dreaming. Her visual language transcends cultural boundaries. These works offer collectors and institutions a rare opportunity to acquire a museum-quality piece by an artist now considered a key figure in contemporary art worldwide. In the mid-1990s, Emily created extremely colourful canvases by dipping her brushes into several pots of overlapping paint, creating floral prints with multicoloured outlines. Despite her advanced age, her gestures remained very dynamic: she sometimes used a brush in each hand and struck it simultaneously on the canvas, spreading the bristles to let the paint build up around the handle, adding depth and texture. Many buyers came directly to her to commission work. Paul Walsh supplied paintings to gallery owner Hank Ebes in Melbourne. Tim Jennings founded his Mbantua Gallery, specialising in emerging artists from Utopia, with Emily as a central figure. Fred Torres, son of his niece Barbara Weir, helped promote her art along with other family members. He took her to Adelaide in 1990 to produce several series, until her final works shortly before her death in 1996.
