Of clear strike on a broad flan, perfectly centred. With a very nice bust of the Empress. Only minimal marks barely browning the fields. Almost corner flower.
Aelia Flaccilla was of Spanish origin, like her husband, the Emperor Theodosius, whom she followed to Constantinople and bore two sons who were to succeed him at the head of the future empires of the East and West: Arcadius and then, six years later, Honorius. She was the first empress since Helena, Fausta and Theodora to be depicted on coins, thus glorifying her commitment to Christianity. Pious and generous towards the poor, she was a role model for Roman and Byzantine princesses in the centuries that followed.
