Pb: gr - RIC 35 - SUP
Note:
Father of the emperor Caligula and Agrippina the Younger (future wife of Claudius and mother of Nero), Caius Julius Caesar was one of the most popular, and probably also one of the most gifted, military leaders in Roman history. Nicknamed Germanicus in honour of his father Drusus's many posthumous victories in Germania. A great conqueror and the empire's personified deterrent, his death gave rise to national mourning. As a result, he was compared to Alexander the Great and subsequently received great tribute, including the minting of coins by his son Caligula.
