ENGLEBERT tyres - Very rare flat enamelled plate with rims, between 1927 and 1935. Square shape 117 x 117 cm. Rare in this state of preservation, with superb, bold, fresh colours, the red cheeks are well marked despite a very slight depigmentation. Exceptional brilliance. Slightly faded at the top with a minor chip in the white margin, chips in the upper corners at the fixing holes and in the lower right corner. A small chip in the letter "N" on the tyre and in the lower right-hand margin. Enamelling: "Émaillerie Alsacienne de Strasbourg/Émaillo-gravure. Paris". Englebert was founded by Oscar Englebert in Liège in 1877.in 1898, Oscar Englebert, until then a trader in rubber products, set up a tyre factory in Belgium and a second one much later in 1929 in Aachen, Germany.in 1931, Société du Pneu Englebert was founded. Following the purchase of a tyre factory in Clairoix, France, in 1936 and partnership agreements with US Rubber Overseas in 1956, the company changed its name to Uniroyal Englebert in 1966 and in 1979 became part of the Continental AG tyre manufacturing group, which had been a shareholder since 1892 (source: Wikipedia).
