Lot no. 47
Clog-maker’s sign
Made of carved, painted wood from a single block. It depicts a clog in the round, the toe ending in a scroll, punctuated by raised dots and a heart on the sole. The upper is adorned with a relief design, imitating the button fastening system of a dress shoe. Scrollwork completes the decoration of this imposing shoe, featuring the monogram ‘M ’ and ‘A’, with each letter on one side of the toe. The heel and sole are emphasised.
