Set comprising a map and aerial photographs of the 17ᵉ Airborne 101st Airborne. It includes a map accompanied by an aerial photograph of the Flamierge area, marked Office A Cof S G2 HQ 17th Airborne, dated 25 December 1944. The entries in the lower left are for the headquarters of the 101st and 17th Airborne, and for the S G class officers for security and counter-espionage. You can see Houffalize on fire. There is some wear and a marked patina to all parts. Condition II+. At the end of December 1944, during Germany's Ardennes Offensive (known as the Battle of the Bulge), the 17th Airborne Division was sent to France and then Belgium. On 3 January 1945, it relieved the 28th Infantry Division near Morhet and took up positions west of Bastogne. General George S. Patton ordered the division to capture the strategic town of Flamierge. The assault involved the 513th Parachute Regiment on the right flank, the 194th Infantry Glider Regiment on the left, while the 193rd Glider Regiment and the 507th Parachute Regiment were held in reserve against possible German counterattacks. The initial attack on Flamierge met with strong German resistance, forcing the troops to temporarily abandon the town due to enemy counterattacks.
