Set of 3 papier-mâché binding boards, Iran, Qajar period, painted and lacquered: 1 decorated with a matrimonial procession, reverse decorated with floral scrolls in gold on a red background, with three medallions, two small ones of landscapes framing a larger one in the centre depicting a mother and child (probably taken from a Western Christian engraving), 30x47 cm, 2 forming a pair with one scene of the Battle of Karnal (1739), Nadir Shah confronting the Mughal sultan Muhammad Shah and his elephants, the other depicting Shah Ismail (the founder of the Safavid dynasty) charging an Uzbek army, during the Persian-Uzbek war (1502-1510), reverse decorated with gold floral scrolls on a black background, 31x46 cm (restorations). A small rectangular Qajar-period papier-mâché box depicting a couple on the terrace of a palace (missing).
