Lot no. 868
A set of two lacquered Russian decorative objects, comprising:
- N. KALOSHINA – Black lacquered box from Palekh (1972). The finely painted hinged lid depicts two male figures aboard a troika drawn by three horses; this is likely a scene from Piotr Yershov’s fairy tale, ‘The Little Humpbacked Horse’. Marked ‘Палех’ (Palekh) and dated 1972 in the bottom right-hand corner of the lid, and signed ‘Н. Калошина’ (N. Kaloshina) in the bottom left-hand corner of the lid.
Dimensions: 3.5 x 12.2 x 6.1 cm
- A black lacquered oval brooch from Mstyeora. The brooch depicts Ivan the Fool, reclining in a lush green meadow in front of a small house. He is brandishing a resplendent, luminous Phoenix feather. Standing before him is his faithful companion, the little magical two-humped horse. Marked ‘Мстёра’ (Mstyora) and bearing the inscription: ‘Конёк-горбунок’ (‘The Little Humpbacked Horse’).
Diameter 5.2 cm
Small chip on the lid
