COUNT SPENCER'S PAGE SET FROM THE END OF THE 19th TO THE EARLY 20th CENTURY Used at the coronations of King Edward VII and King George VI Comprising : - a blue cloth tunic with hook fastenings, trimmed with silver passementerie braid; silver half-spherical buttons; white cloth facings; white quilted sateen lining, - a white satin waistcoat with hook fastening, buttonholes and silver trimmed braid; silver buttons with the Spencer coat of arms, - a waistcoat with false pockets, in yellow sateen, fastened with six buttons; minor wear, - a pair of breeches in white cloth; silver garter buckles, - two pairs of patent leather shoes, one Raverscroft, one Randall, - a pair of white leather ceremonial gloves, - one pair of ivory woollen breeches, - a fine page dagger of the Spencer earls, worn at the coronations of the kings of England; ivory hilt; silver-plated bronze mount, pommel with horse's head in the round, hilt with two inverted quillons with the heads of fantastic creatures; straight-backed blade signed Meyer and Mortimer 36 Conduit Street, hallmarked at the heel, engraved 4/5 with foliage scrolls, the Royal Cypher of King Edward VII, the Great British Coat of Arms and the Royal Cypher of King George V: white leather scabbard, with two silvered brass fittings decorated with foliage, richly engraved with three commemorative attributions on the reverse: "WORN BY A.E. JOHN SPENCER AS PAGE TO JOHN POYNTZ 5th EARL SPENCER K.G. AT THE CORONATION OF KING EDWARD VII 9th AUGUST 1902" / "WORN BY HONBLE GEORGE SPENCER AS PAGE TO CHARLES ROBERT 6th EARL SPENCER AT THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE V 22nd JUNE 1911" / "WORN BY EWARD JOHN VISCOUNT ALTHORP AS PAGE TO CHARLES 5th EARL OF LUGAN AT THE CORONATION OF KING GEORGE VI 12th MAY 1937" L. 64 cm (25 ¼ in.) With protective coated canvas cover and silver lamé and passementerie strap CIC n°FR2503500075-K An imperial French naval officer's belt of the Second Empire period, in blue passementerie with gilt braid; blue velvet lining; gilt brass buckle with crowned anchor, lined with morocco; with its two suspenders, the whole in a black painted tin trunk with brass cartouche engraved "Pages Suit 1902". The Earl of Spencer page set worn at the coronations of King Edward VII and King George VI; together with the Earl of Spencer page dagger worn at the coronations of the Kings of England and a Napoleon III imperial naval officer's belt This outfit was worn by Albert Edward John Spencer (7th Earl Spencer), as page to the 5th Earl at the coronation of King Edward VII (1902) and by Viscount Althorp (8th Earl Spencer) in 1937 (coronation of George VI). The dagger was used at the coronations of three kings by pages of the Spencer Earls (and future Earls themselves): George V, Edward VII and George VI. - In accordance with current regulations, ivory lots have a CIC and are in free circulation within the European Union.
