Gilt handle signed "Gertrude & Paul Bret. Artus Bertrand Edit" representing the figure of equity holding a balance and engraved on the reverse with pre-Columbian symbols; hilt in the shape of a pre-Columbian eagle with a handshake on the back.
Goldsmith's hallmark Arthus Bertrand and title Minerve
Blade engraved "Georges Davy 25 mars 1953". Green chagrin-covered scabbard with two hallmarked vermeil fittings. The cap button bears the arms of Normandy (place of origin), Cannes (town of his marriage), Dijon (where he was Dean of the Faculty of Letters) and Rennes (where he was Rector).
In a green leather case, sheathed in velvet and ivory silk, signed by Artus Bertrand.

Mr Georges Davy's sword of membership of the Institute of Moral and Political Sciences
Georges Davy (1883-1976)
French sociologist. He was professor of sociology at the Sorbonne, member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques, chairman of the jury for the agrégation in philosophy and dean of the Faculté des lettres in Paris. His work continues and illustrates Émile Durkheim's work in the field of law. In 1928, along with many other French and German intellectuals, he took part in the first university course in Davos.
Gertrude Bret (1904-1995) was a sculptor and the wife of painter Paul BRET (1902-1956). The couple also made Charles Morgan's sword.
