Officer's sword of the Gardes du Corps du Roi with silver mounting "à la mousquetaire", ovoid pommel with "côtes de melon", single fluted branch with "pas d'âne", moulded bivalve top with sandblasted base on both sides, wooden spindle covered with a filigree of twisted wire of 2 thicknesses, straight triangular blade gilded and blued in thirds, on the face with median edge engraved in gold letters: "Officier des Gardes du Corps du Roy" framed by 2 fleurs de lys, on the flat side a succession of motifs characteristic of this corps, fleur-de-lys, trophy with musical instruments, the arms of France stamped with the closed crown, radiating nimbus, figured sun and again fleur de lys, heel engraved "Klingenthal, Roze Md, fourbisseur à Chaalons". Leather scabbard with 2 silver fittings (leather probably refinished). L: 98.5 cm, blade: 83 cm. Circa 1760-1780. BE While the "donkey step" hilt is characteristic of the reign of Louis XV, and the filigree and pommel are in a style seen on other officer's swords of the Gardes du Corps (see an example from the former M. Pétard collection and the Ader sale of 27 January 2017, no. 141), the blade is characteristic of the production of the 1770-1780s, which can be seen on several listed swords (Ariès 2e fascicule, 1968, T. de Maigret sale of 15 April 2022, no. 103).
