Lot no. 75
EQUIPMENT. Small case containing a type A Mk II* transmitter No. 3066 in perfect condition consisting of three cases, one a short-wave receiver, the second a transmitter fitted with a quartz oscillator placed directly on top of the case, the third a power supply allowing adjustment to the mains voltage available, this one exceptionally complete with its lamps, cables, quartz, bakelite earphones from MULTITONE ELECTRIC co Ltd, London, the micromanipulator, 2 spare lamps from SYLVANIA, USA and NATIONAL UNION, USA, 8 fuses, 4 spare brass plugs and above all the extremely rare user manual in French. An exceptional item, complete and in perfect condition. TBE Developed by Major John L. BROWN of SOE, the A Mk II* transmitter was manufactured by MARCONI from 1942, making it one of the first transmitters to equip parachuted radios in France. Our example was found by chance last spring in a house in Candé-sur-Beuvron when it was being sold and cleaned. It was destined to be thrown away but was saved at the last minute. The radio operators had a life expectancy of 6 months and suffered losses of almost 75% in 1941 and 1942 and 50% in 1943, demonstrating the rarity of this surviving equipment from that era, the mere possession of which could prove fatal.
