Damage and missing veneer, mechanics and furniture as is. A complete restoration is required for this instrument. A box containing detached veneering parts is included.
The number 3058 inscribed on our piano corresponds in the Erard archives to a square piano that left the workshops in 1795. Harpsichord-shaped pianos were produced by the workshops at the same time, but with different serial numbers.
The Erard archives show a "harpsichord-shaped" piano, number 13058, with an entry date of December 5, 1831, and an exit date of June 30, 1832, acquired by "Mme de Gréci, rue de L'Abbaye N°6", and listed in the invoicing records as "Piano forme clavecin nouveau en bois de citronnier avec estrade". Does our piano correspond to the latter?
A famous family of musical instrument makers (harpsichords, fortepianos, harps and pianos) founded by Sébastien Erard (1752-1831) and taken over by his nephew Pierre (1796-1855) on his death in 1831, the Erard firm was the originator of numerous innovations and patents in musical instrument making, and supplied pianos to the most famous composers of its time, including Haydn, Beethoven, Verdi, Listz, Fauré and Ravel.
