Small in-4, red morocco, rich gilt petit fers lace including two repeated marotte fers at the corners, ornate spine, blue morocco lining decorated with gilt lace, marbled double endpapers, gilt edges over marbling, full havana morocco slipcase (Cuzin). Famous illustrated edition by Charles Eisen of Nicolas Gueudeville's translation, with notes by Anne-Gabriel Meusnier de Querlon. It is decorated with a frontispiece, thirteen out-of-text figures and three vignettes, engraved after Eisen by Aliamet, Delafosse, Flipart, Legrand, Lemire, Pinssio and Tardieu. A fine rocaille frame engraved by Martinasie after Eisen adorns the frontispiece. A superb copy reprinted on large paper in in-4 format, enriched with a second state of all the hors texte engravings, in in-12 proofs mounted on stretchers, some before the letter; a separate print of Martinasie's framing (signed in pen), the header and the cul-de-lampe; a fine unsigned frontispiece, added opposite the publisher's Preface.
