Trained by his father in the Swiss landscape tradition, Ernst Hodel II continued to depict the Alps faithfully and poetically. His work is marked by an acute sense of composition and a remarkable sensitivity to light and relief, making him one of the worthy continuators of the Alpine school of painting.
