It was printed by the Austrian State Printing Office in Vienna. This is number 147." ESTIMATE °€ 250 - € 500 STARTING PRICE € 250 Ernst Wagner was an Austrian painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and writer. Initially, he worked as a sculptor, but from 1918/1919 he emerged as a painter of visionary, expressive landscapes, figurative works, and religious depictions. He studied law at the University of Graz. From 1901 to 1902, he studied sculpture under Josef Breitner at the Vienna School of Applied Arts, before temporarily transferring to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts in 1902 to study with Hans Bitterlich. Wagner subsequently perfected his skills in Munich and joined the circle of Adolf von Hildebrand. In 1904, he participated for the first time in a Hagenbund exhibition, exhibiting portrait busts. In 1913, he taught at the Vienna Black Forest Reform School, following Oskar Kokoschka. Until 1915, he travelled and participated in exhibitions in Munich, Berlin, Paris, Ascona, and Calamotta. In 1909, he met Auguste Rodin. During the war, he worked as a war painter in the Imperial and Royal War Press Office. Until around 1929, Wagner lived mostly in Vienna, interrupted by trips to Poland and the Balkans. He then taught in Dresden until 1936. From 1941, he spent extended periods in Italy, England, France, and Vienna; subsequently, he settled in Munich. Collectives: 1925 and 1927 at the Galerie Würthle in Vienna, 1952 at the Städtische Galerie Munich (with Hermann Ebers). Wagner is the author of several cultural-political works (e.g., "Kunst und Evolution," 1920; "Goethe's Antwort auf Probleme der Gegenwart," 1928). Wagner also designed stained glass and mosaics. From 1922 to 1938, he was a member of the Hagenbund (Hagenbund), as well as the "League of Intellectual Workers." Works by Ernst Wagner are in the following collections: Austrian Gallery Belvedere, Vienna; Albertina, Vienna; Joanneum Graz, University of Applied Arts Vienna. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13%, for photographys 20%, is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
