Roman Petrovich Tyrtov was a Russian-born painter, graphic artist, illustrator, decorator, fashion designer and sculptor of the Art Deco period who worked in Paris and Hollywood. He is known by the pseudonym Erté (made up of the first letters of his surname and first name), which he took 'so as not to dishonour his family' of aristocratic origin.
