Other private teachers and sponsors were Alfred Roller and Gustav Klimt. Osen studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Christian Griepenkerl and met Egon Schiele there. They quickly became best friends. Osen was, alongside Schiele, one of the co-founders of the Neukunstgruppe in 1909, which created its own Austrian color expressionism. After the art academy he traveled to many countries, including: in the South Seas. In 1914, Osen celebrated global success as a set designer at the New German Theater in Prague with his depiction of the metaphysical.
