A specimen of great historical and cartographic interest entitled 'Nuovissima Guida del Viaggiatore in Italia', published in Milan in 1852 by the prestigious publishing house Ferdinando Artaria e Figlio. The work represents the 10th edition of one of the most famous and widespread guidebooks of the 19th century, fundamental for Grand Tour travellers. The title page indicates that the volume is enriched with several partial itinerary maps and 15 topographical maps of the main cities of Italy, indispensable tools for the time. Physical characteristics: Binding: Hardcover in full dark-coloured publisher's cloth, characterised by a particular "portfolio" (or envelope) closure with shaped flap, typical of pocket guidebooks intended for practical use during travel. Place and Year of Printing: Milan, 1852. Publisher: Ferdinando Artaria e Figlio (with references to Vienna and Mannheim). Dimensions: Pocket size (small octavo). Conservation status: The volume is in fair overall condition. The original binding shows signs of wear and time (small stains and abrasions on the cloth). Internally, the paper shows the natural browning of time and some blooming consistent with the age of the work.
