From the Trésor de Bazas discovered on 5 May 2004, Jean Vinchon Numismatique sale, Angoulême, 29 October 2005, no. 111, with its original cover, and listed in the book "le Trésor de Bazas" by Michel Dhénin and Jean Bernard Marquette, published by Les Amis du Bazadais, 2015, no. 768. PCGS AU58 (49960650). Good centering and the blank barely warped. Beautiful golden colour. Rare for Segovia and variety with a small cross next to the King. Superb. The Bazas Treasure was discovered in a 17th-century building undergoing renovation when a niche in the wall was discovered. In this niche were two jars, one containing 157 gold coins and the other several dozen silver coins, plus billon coins without containers, for a total of 1,010 coins. This treasure can be dated to around 1486, because of a shield of Béarn by Catherine, a shield with the sun by Charles VIII and a cherub by Richard III. The coins are from France, Aquitaine and other French provinces, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands. With no particular reason given, we can assume that this treasure was abandoned privately. Its owner was undoubtedly a bourgeois who contributed to the development of the town, close to Bordeaux, by trading wine, wood and woad with Europe. The Treasure of Bazas was initially auctioned in Angoulême on 29 October 2005 by auctioneers Robert Juge and Vincent Gérard-Tastet, with expert appraiser Françoise Berthelot-Vinchon.
