Very rare first edition.
It seems that the publisher Jean Waesberge and the compiler Étienne de Walcourt, a grammarian about whom little is known, both played an important role in this edition. The title mentions I.W. as the author, but the dedication is signed Jean Waesberge and the first sonnet, which is another dedication, is signed E. de Walcourt.
Be that as it may, the work is a series of joyful songs in verse, always based on love.
The title and the privilege announce Book One, which implies that a second volume was planned but obviously never saw the light of day.
A very fine copy in a lined binding by Bauzonnet-Trautz.
Provenance: Baron Jérôme Pichon (19-24 April 1869, no. 641), Baron Sosthène de La Roche Lacarelle (ex-libris, 30 April-4 May 1888, no. 262) and Count Raoul de Lignerolles (5-17 March 1894, no. 1342).
