Polynesia, Marquesas Islands. 19th century. These three ancient stilt stirrups from the Marquesas Islands were collected in situ by C. Gentille, commander of the schooner Orohena, in Tahiti and the South Seas between 1878 and 1882. They have remained in the family since the end of the 19th century.
