ETRUSCAN AMETHYST SCARAB WITH GRASSHOPPER
Ca. 450 - 400 BC.
An amethyst scarab with a rounded, domed back and incised lines defining the clypeus and elytra. The underside is engraved with a depiction of a grasshopper in profile, showing an elongated body, bent hind legs, and extended antennae. The depiction is enclosed within a linear border with evenly spaced notches along the edges.
