ETRUSCAN STAMNOS WHITE ON RED
Ca. 700 - 600 BC. A stamnos, also known as a lebês gamikos, is a vessel inspired by Corinthian pottery from the Italic geometric period. This example is a sub-cylindrical jar with a short, thick neck and small side handles. The decoration comprises concentric bands of red pigment on a white or cream background, with the shoulders featuring a prominent band of stylised birds in a reserved cream hue on a red band.
