EUGEN VON BLAAS
(Albano Laziale 1843-1931 Venice)
Portrait of a lady.
Oil on wood.
Signed centre left: Eugen von Blaas.
34.8 × 26.5 cm.
Provenance:
European private collection.
This charming portrait by the Italian painter Eugen von Blaas is stylistically in line with his depictions of Mediterranean beauties. Comparable paintings can be found in the artist's catalogue raisonné (see Thomas Wassibauer: Eugen von Blaas, 1843-1931. Das Werk, Hildesheim 2005, p. 55 and p. 112). The interplay between the impasto brushstrokes in the jewellery and clothing and the fine brushstrokes that masterfully reproduce the sitter's physiognomy make this lot particularly appealing.
Katharina Seyffertitz confirms its authenticity on the basis of a photograph, for which we thank her.
