Pierre Petit (1831-1909)
Pierre Petit (1831-1909) was one of the most important French photographers of the second half of the 19th century. A renowned portrait artist, he produced effigies of leading figures from the artistic, political and literary worlds of his time, including Eugène Delacroix and Hector Berlioz. A close admirer of Boudin's talent, he photographed him on several occasions. The dedication inscribed on this work, "To Mr Pierre Petit", bears witness to the esteem and friendly ties between the painter and his famous photographer.
