Eugène Boudin (1824 Honfleur - 1898 Paris) Boats off the coast of Normandy A study executed with quick, confident strokes by Boudin, the important pioneer of Impressionism. After 1850, he belonged to an artists' colony near Honfleur, which was also joined by Gustave Courbet, Johan Barthold Jongkind and the young Claude Monet. In 1874, he took part in the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris, which, in addition to Monet, included works by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas. Camille Pissarro, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Alfred Sisley. Pencil/paper. R. and blue monogram stamp (Lugt 828). 15.9 cm x 23.5 cm. Provenance: German private collection. Pencil on paper.
