In his note, Alfred Robaut mentions a watercolour of the same subject, probably taken from this drawing, which Delacroix cited in a list of works written from memory: "Un Taleb ou savant écrivant à une table - Un homme debout près de lui - Le Taleb a un cafetan bleu de ciel - Aquarelle 1842". This replica is now kept at Rueil-Malmaison, Châteaux de Malmaison and Bois-Préau1. The annotation in the lower right-hand corner would suggest that this drawing dates from 27 January 1832, the day when Mornay visited the Pasha and his advisors in the Casbah, while Delacroix was exempt from official travel, as he did not have to listen to the diplomatic exchanges. 1.
