Eugene Galien-Laloue (Paris 1854 - 1941) Landscape with small church Signed Lievin lower right Oil on canvas, 46X60 cm Provenance: Rome, private collection Eugène Galien ; Laloue was particularly adept at establishing different identities, as he worked under three pseudonyms throughout his career: J Lievin, E Galiany and L Dupuy. His paintings offer a snapshot of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th century. The artist focuses on Parisian boulevards depicting important monuments and their surroundings, punctuated by cheerful figures and horse-drawn carriages, trams and buses. He moved several times from Paris to paint the landscapes of Normandy and the surroundings of Barbizon, settling briefly in Fontainebleau. He studied with his father, the stage designer Charles Laloue, and in 1877 made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français, where he continued to exhibit for the rest of his career.
