EXCEPTIONAL CHINESE NORTHERN WEI TERRACOTTA HORSE - TL TESTED

A Northern Wei period terracotta horse. The horse stands alert with an arched neck and its ears pricked forward. The mane is depicted with the use of a red pigment, scalloped in a pattern along the neck. Its dressed with a feather ornament atop its head, a tasselled rope looped around the top of its neck and tufted ornaments on its chest collar. On the back is a multi-layered saddle with red pigmentation. This fully caparisoned horse stands proudly on a rectangular pedestal. For similar see: Guimet Museum, MA 4674. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.
