The corners are topped with figures including the pope, bearing the initial "P", a Latin cross and a papal cross, Napoleon III with the "N" and a cockade, a soldier wearing a cap embossed with an imperial eagle and the letter "S", and a priest, surmounting a chalice, bearing the initial "P". Each corner ends in a ball. In the centre, perched on a Sacred Heart in the round, a Janiform face depicts Christ and the Virgin Mary.
