[LIFAR EXHIBITION "PUSHKIN 1837-1937"] Almanakh na 1838 god [Almanac for the year 1838], compiled from the literary works of Bernet, V.A. Vladislavlev, P.A. Vyazemsky, F.N. Glinka, E.P. Grebenka, E.I. Guber, V.I. Dal, M.D. Delarue, I.I. Dmitriev, P.P. Ershov [and others], [edited by V. Vladislavlev]. SPb: Voennaya tip, 1838. - 4], 352 pages, [1] title leaf, [5] leaves of illustrations ; 18 cm. in Russian The illustrated title page is after a drawing by A. Venetsianov and lithographed on stone by I. Seleznev; the portrait of Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna, engraved by N. Utkin, as well as illustrations after drawings by V. Gau, V. Shebuyev, O. Kiprensky, E. Pluchart, and A. Venetsianov - engravings by N. Utkin, S. Galaktionov, T. Wright, and B. Afanasyev. The publisher's ornate cover has been retained. Bound in contemporary half-leather. Banded spine with gilt embossing. Good condition. Binding detached from text block, small stains, minor traces of moisture on frontispiece and title page. Blind-stamped bookplate of V.N. Vitov on pages 3 and 349. On the last flyleaf, a label from S. Lifar's exhibition "Pushkin. 1837-1937", held at the Galerie Pleyel in Paris from 16 March to 15 April 1937. One of the best literary almanacs of the early 19th century. The publisher was Vladimir Andreyevich Vladislavlev, who continued to publish the almanac for the next five years under the title Utrennyaya Zarya ["Morning Dawn"]. Vladislavlev's almanacs were enthusiastically received by the public. Vissarion Belinsky wrote: "Vladislavlev's almanac is European, in the full sense of the word, in its outward elegance and opulence; it undoubtedly far surpasses the trifles of this kind published in Europe solely for their illustrations". (translated from Russian) For the first time, A.S. Pushkin's poem Proshanie ['Farewell'] has been published posthumously as an independent poem. Previously, it had been printed as a lyric to Esaulov's romance, which had been published separately in the winter of 1830 and spring of 1831. A great rarity in this condition. Provenance: 1) Collection of the economist and member of the Moscow Society of Bookplate Lovers, Vladimir Nikitich Vitov. 2) S. Lifar, exhibition "Pushkin. 1837-1937.' Salle de concert Pleyel, from 16 March to 15 April 1937. The exhibition featured 11 handwritten letters from Pushkin to Natalya Goncharova, a portrait of Pushkin by V.A. Tropinin, the manuscript of the Journey to Arzrum, a duelling pistol and Pushkin's personal seal. The heart of the exhibition is based on Serge Lifar's personal collection. Bibliography : Sm.-Sok. Один из лучших литературных альманахов начала XIX в. Издателем был Владимир Андреевич Владиславлев, который в последующие пять лет выпускал альманах уже под названием "Утренняя Заря". Альманахи Владиславлева восторженно приняла читающая публика. В. Белинский писал: "По внешнему изяществу и роскоши альманах Владиславлева - европейский, в полном значении этого слова; а по содержанию, вероятно, далеко превзойдет игрушки этого рода, издаваемые в Европе только для картинок". Впервые в виде самостоятельного стихотворения (посмертно) опубликовано стихорения А.С. Пушкина "Прощание". До этого печаталось в виде текста к романсу Есаулова, выпущенному отдельным изданием зимой 1830 - весной 1831 гг. Большая редкость в такой сохранности.
