Of great rarity. - The portfolio consists of 17 prints and is based on Grosz's designs for a production of Der brave Soldat Svejk at the Piscator stage in 1928. The series shows the devastating effects of the war on the country and its inhabitants and criticises institutions such as the government and the church in a caricaturistic manner. After publication, the creator, George Grosz, and the publishers John Heartfield and Wieland Herzfelde were arrested and charged with blasphemy. This leaflet was published during the appeals, when the portfolio was temporarily available again. The German text reads: "Three of these drawings were confiscated on the charge of blasphemy. Initially convicted, Grosz and his publisher were acquitted on appeal. The public prosecutor's office applied to the Reich Court to appeal against this judgement. The portfolio is therefore temporarily available again. (...)"
