Extremely Rare Mid-19th Century Austrian Air Rifle by P Volkmann in Vienna. An exceptionally rare and historically significant air rifle crafted by the renowned Hungarian gunsmith Peter Volkmann, who worked in Vienna during the mid-19th century. This rifle features a two-part barrel design: the breech section forms the air reservoir, while the forward portion houses the rifled barrel. The air chamber is made of brass and engraved with the maker's name: P. Volkmann in Wien. The elegant walnut stock is richly carved and decorated with brass overlays. Peter Volkmann was active in Pest (Budapest) before establishing his name in Vienna, where he specialised in the fabrication of advanced pneumatic arms for sport shooting and collectors. An extremely scarce and well-preserved example of 19th-century air gun innovation, highly sought after by collectors of antique firearms and pneumatic weapons. Length 107 cm.
