A reprint of the same date of the Procez et amples examinations sur la vie de Caresme-Prenant, in the form of a collection of eight pieces, seems to have been published in Paris in 1830 (Kearney). Our copy includes only the first four short stories reprinted at that time. The original copy of La Copie d'un Bail has not been found. It is probably a pastiche made in the eighteenth century at the time of the reprinting of the other pieces: "a single bookseller-editor by the name of Pierre Viart seems to have practised in Paris, well before the possible printing of this edition, since he was active from 1518 to 1523. No sixteenth or early seventeenth century edition has been found that could have served as a model for his eighteenth century copy, whose first version of the text therefore only appeared at that time" (Lavéant).
